Your Nanooks are $300k away from their first goal of the Nanook Futures fund: a NEW scoreboard at hockey! Make a gift today to help make this a reality in 2027. UAF Athletics The Next Era of Alaska Hockey In celebration of 100 years of Alaska Hockey, the scoreboard campaign was launched with early community and alumni support. Over the summer, a new scoreboard came within reach thanks to a transformative gift from ConocoPhillips Alaska. Now, we will finish this campaign together. The campaign began with a $900,000 goal, and now only $300,000 remains. Your gift this year will close the gap and make the scoreboard a reality in 2027. A NEW scoreboard will: - Elevate the Alaska Nanooks NCAA Division I program - Increase recruitment and retention - Enhance fan engagement at every game The Nanook Facilities and Equipment Futures fund is dedicated to elevating UAF Athletics and the student-athlete experience. Donations will go to the fund’s first goal of a NEW scoreboard at Alaska Nanooks Hockey. A gift at any amount makes a difference! Make your gift by December 22, 2026, for inclusion on the donor recognition wall.

The UA Museum of the North is now the official repository of Bus 142. A multi-year process of cataloging, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting this iconic piece of Alaska history has begun. The museum is responsible for the costs of this immense project and must raise funds to share it with the public. The result will be an outdoor exhibition that shares the unique story of Bus 142, beginning as a public transit vehicle in Fairbanks in the 1940’s up to its removal from the Stampede Trail in 2020. The exhibition plans include a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety and protection of the bus and its visitors. Importantly, the exhibition will be publicly accessible and available to visitors at no cost. For more information, please visit the University of Alaska Museum of the North's Ethnology & History page. If you have questions about your donation or ways to support the project, please email ajallegood@alaska.edu. UAF is an AA/EO employer and educational institution and prohibits illegal discrimination against any individual: www.alaska.edu/nondiscrimination/.
UAMN Gold Mining History Exhibit
This exhibit case with wall panels and drawers will share a condensed history of Alaska gold mining featuring objects from Roger Burggraf’s donated collection.
This exhibit case with wall panels and drawers will share a condensed history of Alaska gold mining featuring objects from Roger Burggraf’s donated collection.
So far, we've raised [[Amount Raised]] from [[Gifts Received]] gifts!
Roger Burggraf, a highly-regarded supporter and leader in the Alaska mining industry, has recently donated his personal gold collection to the UA Museum of the North. This collection spans his nearly 50-year career as a miner and mine operator. The museum is honored to be chosen as the care-taker of this legacy and would like to create a new exhibition on gold mining history to feature Roger’s collection. The museum is raising funds to support the design, installation, and maintenance of the exhibit. This highly condensed history of Alaska gold mining will include key individuals from the turn of the 20th century, including operators of small claims up to dredges. It will also include the transition period into modern large industrial efforts through present day. The exhibit will showcase alluring gold nuggets, as well as dust and representative ore samples collected over Roger’s lifetime. Audio clips from interviews with Roger will share personal insights to this history in his own words. Stories from historians and other miners will be incorporated. The exhibit will feature wall panels and a large, custom-built case in the museum’s Gallery of Alaska. Dimensions of the case will be approx. 100” x 60” and 24” deep with pull-out drawers in the lower section. As currently conceived, the grounding visual element will be a geologic map of Interior Alaska with many newly donated objects mounted directly over the map to highlight local mining history, its geographic scale, and its diverse practices. Please join us! The museum must raise $130,000 to share this exhibit with the community and visitors from around the world. Thank you to Kinross Alaska, Northern Star POGO Mine, Alaska Miners Association, and the Bill Stroecker Foundation for their generous leadership support. Donor Recognition All non-anonymous donors will be listed on a physical acknowledgement given to Roger Burggraf personally, in recognition of his donation and contributors who supported this exhibit. The first acknowledgement was given to Roger in 2025 and an updated acknowledgement will be given in September 2026. Donor names will also be included on this website’s Donor Wall and on digital donor panels and the annual donor plaque in the museum atrium. Major donors ($10,000+) receive additional recognition: name on an acknowledgement label not larger than 4"x10" within or alongside the new case such as "This exhibit is made possible by major donors"; inclusion in news release; check presentation photo sent to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner and posted on social media; name included as major supporter on the museum website, monthly eNewsletter, and in-museum slides for twelve months. Please contact Aelin Allegood at ajallegood@alaska.edu or (907) 378-1205 for details. Gifts are directed through the University of Alaska Foundation, Tax ID # 23-7394620. Project Timeline While the fundraising timeline is short, the exhibit design and installation is a two-year project. The tentative timeline includes:

Exhibit development with stakeholders (minimally eight months)

Exhibit design phase (approximately four months)

Custom-built display case manufacturing and shipping (minimally six months)

Target installation in First Quarter 2027

This extended project timeline reflects coordination with other exhibit projects and the time to meaningfully communicate with all stakeholders. Consistent with museum practice, the exhibit will provide a balanced story of mining from multiple perspectives. The museum reserves the right to decide the final form of these stories. A gift to this project is eligible for the Alaska Education Tax Credit. Gifts from corporations who pay certain taxes to the State of Alaska may qualify for this tax benefit.
